The not-for-profit organization Health First operates this hospital. Holmes Regional Medical Center has 514-beds and is fully equipped with the only level II trauma center in all of Brevard County. Kindred Hospital specializes in long term care for complicated heath issues. Known as long-term acute care or transitional care, patients stay on average around 25 days before being released. Health First Palm Bay Hospital has 152 beds, 52 of which are medical/surgical beds. There is also a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The hospital’s original name was ‘Palm Bay Community Hospital,’ but in 2008 they dropped the ‘community’ from the name. Health First, the non-profit organization behind this hospital invested $76.5 million into upgrading the facility from 2007 to 2009.

Health First Viera Hospital, 8745 N Wickham Rd

Health First Viera Hospital is located in Viera, but is still close enough for Melbourne residents to go to. This 84-bed acute care facility opened in 2011, making it the newest of the four other Health First hospitals in the area. This facility offers in-patient diagnostic and lab services, as well as surgical operations. They are also equipped with VitalWatch, a remote electronic ICU that provides 2-way audio and video communication in all ICU rooms. They also offer eCareMobile critical care services. Not to mention, the building is built tough to withstand hurricanes and other violent storms.
